i have an rc plane with a brusless motor connected to a 30 Amp Speed Controller and a Hobbyking 2.4ghz hk brand reciever (relevant?), do I need another battery for my reciever or will my big battery provided power through the 3rd (throttle) channel?

you don't need a battery for your receiver...
BUT IT DEPENDS...
just power up the ESC, connect the battery to the ESC and see if the receiver light turns on, if it does then you don't need a 2nd battery... ALMOST ALL ESC's of less than 50 amps have a BEC, the job of a BEC is to power up the receiver so you don't need an additional battery for the receiver...
