Have you found a bike bell adequate and necessary?

I don't notice cyclists who look like they are training on roads using a bike bell, horn anything. I see plenty pedaling by themselves as well as large groups.

Bells on bicycles are primarily to alert pedestrians. Road cyclist seldom encounter a pedestrian that they can not simply avoid.
As John mentioned, a bike path, which may be crowed with 2 way foot & bicycle traffic, is a good location for using a bell.
