Help with my 2 year old beagle's behavioral issues!?
So last year we adopted a 1 year old female beagle we named dixie. She is as SWEET as can be, and we all love her BUT..that dog seems to be untrainable.
There are many issues, but I think the biggest thing i want to fix is that she constantly bites at the heels of my 12 year old lab. Even when derby is going up the stairs, dixie will nip at her and its driving derby insane. Im scared shes going to fall or something since she's so old. We have tried so hard to make this stop but it hasn't gotten any better! Any suggestions of how to get her to stop this?/
I think that Dixie is trying to be top dog--taking the alpha role.
Derby needs to be reinstated as alpha!
Feed Derby first--give attention to Derby first and have Dixie wait her turn. Never let Dixie go first through a doorway before you or Derby.
As for the nipping--get a water sprayer bottle or loud whistle-a can with pennies in it--Whenever Dixie goes to follow Derby up the stairs and nips at her--spray her with water and a stern "No" or "No bite".
When Dixie is around Derby and is calm and nice to her--praise and reward her.
