Can a stock car radio handle new speakers?
I have a 1998 Crysler Sebring Convertible, Jx model.
I've wanted to put in new speakers for a while but am not sure if the stock stereo system can handle them. The car has the original 98 stereo with a cassete player, bass, and treble controls. Do I NEED to upgrade the radio (I personally really like it)
The speakers it has right now are the original stock Infinitys. It has four 6x9 and two 2-1/2" tweeters in the dash. I don't want to replace the tweeters just the four main ones.
I'm not looking to put in some amazing $300 Kenwood speakers, just some decent Bose or Infinity (max, around $120).
If you know anything that could help me out please let me know or if you have any recommendations for speakers I'd appreciate it. I like to listen to Techno, dubstep, rap, hiphop, and some rock.

Actually, Kenwood's speakers aren't really that great. And Bose is terrible. Kenwood makes excellent Stereos, but their speakers aren't anything special.
Infinity makes excellent speakers, and so does Polk, Focal, Boston, and JL.
As far as putting in new speakers, you will be fine. Infinity especially, they work great with lower powered stock stereos. The only thing is, a new stereo will sound MUCH better than the stock one.
You do not NEED to upgrade the stereo, but you SHOULD. It will sound much much much better that way.
Order of things I would upgrade...
First: Speakers
Second: Stereo
Third: Subs
Fourth: Amps
Fifth: EQs and Processors
Just going to the second step will really improve your car's audio. I'm at about the fourth step in my Jeep Wrangler. Funny, cause the road noise with the roof off negates all my upgrades... lol
