mobility in the elderly?
Im doing an essay on mobility surrounding Dementia and the elderly and I have a few questions that I need assisting with more in depth.
I understand about balance and the effects a fall can have, but im not really sure what aids can be provided, how they can help, and other health conditions that can effect mobility.
What different types of heath conditions can effect mobility in the elderly?
How do you prepare, risk assess and support them to use mobility aids.
What effect does it have on their well being if their mobility is poor or getting worse?

I can help in some respects as my wife (82) just had a fall. The ambulance was called because I could not get her up. The support was amazing, she was allocated to a falls nurse, who visited my home. She arranged for handles to be fitted on the back door entrance, (I refused the front door). Supports on the toilet pan and a commode, also a seat with arms to support her getting up. The effect on my wife was very bad and she now walks with a stick, she lacks confidence in her walking and avoids it when ever possible which is very bad for her. She has gone from an elderly lady to an old lady over it. The other effect is the demands made on me (84) and I am not complaining, I have to go before her and prepare everything ready, rather wearing me out. There is very little you can do that does not require walking that you do not think about, something minor like going to the toilet, or major like shopping. I hope that helps a little with your work
