How would i get a motorcycle racing career started?
I am 17 and i am 5' 6' in height
and i weigh 130 lbs with a slim build.
I have been riding for over a year now and i am currently driving a Ninja Sport bike.
I believe i have a good build for racing sport motorcycles. Since i am pretty light, i would be able to get
pretty good performance from the small racing sport bike engines(125cc-1000cc+)
Motorcycles are pretty much my passion and i really enjoy watching the superbike races.
I want to start racing, but how do i get started? what do i have to do?
I have 25,000 dollars to get started. is that enough?
I went to a kawasaki delaership a while ago and found a converted zx-6 racer for 4500 bucks..kinda wish i jumped on that one but oh well..
would it be best to start out with a 600 cc bike or something smaller like a 250cc?
To get started, go club racing. You don't have to spend anything like the dough Max is talking about. But if you don't have the money to go out and buy a ride, you will have to more than make up for it in time commitment.
Check with your local AMA district to find out events near you, and rules for the various classes. There are other sanctioning bodies, too, CRA in the Midwest, AFM on the West coast, WERRA on the East coast. (The names of these bodies may have changed over the years, and there are no doubt others as well.)
Find a class you can afford, prepare a bike, and go racing. One rule of thumb: whatever level you are at, racing takes all your time and all your money.
