Given the fact that the nose has such a huge impact on one's overall appearance, it's no surprise that half a million people every year seek to improve the shape and size of their noses with rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty, which is commonly referred to as a nose job, can decrease/increase the size of your nose, alter the shape of your nostrils, and alter the bridge and tip of your nose. Even a subtle nose job can dramatically improve the way you look.
Rhinoplasty is a very popular surgical procedure that is usually sought for cosmetic reasons, although sometimes it is done to correct surgical defects that cause breathing problems. Candidates must be at least 14 to 15 years old to ensure that their nasal bone is completely mature.
The Procedure
Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient surgical procedure that takes one to two hours to complete. A surgeon begins by making an incision inside of the nose or across the columella, which is the flap of skin that separates the nostrils. The incision allows the surgeon to access the cartilage and bone that form the structure of the nose. The surgeon sculpts, profiles, and rearranges the cartilage and bone to achieve the desired result and then stitches the skin back up.
After the nose job is complete, the surgeon places a splint on the nose to maintain its new shape for five to eight days. In the days following a nose job, you can expect to see a lot of swelling and bruising. Cold compresses can be applied around but not directly on the nose to reduce swelling. Black eyes are not unusual during the recovery period and soreness may last for several days. Pain medication may be required.
The Risks of Rhinoplasty
Like any other surgical procedure, there is risk of bleeding, infection, reaction to medication, and reaction to anesthesia with rhinoplasty. Some risks that are unique to rhinoplasty include nosebleeds, numbness, scarring at the base of the nose, permanent nerve damage, bursting of the skin's small blood vessels, and red spots on the underside of the nose. If there is over-correction or under-correction of the nose during rhinoplasty, a second procedure may be necessary in the future.
Initially, many people may feel discouraged with the result of their nose job because the final outcome of the procedure may not be apparent with all the swelling and bruising. However, once the swelling subsides, the majority of patients are satisfied with the final results of their nose jobs. Prior to making the decision to get a nose job, speak with several qualified surgeons to determine whether your expectations are realistic and surgically possible. As long as you weigh the benefits and risks of the procedure carefully and find a qualified surgeon to assist you, you are likely to be satisfied with the end result.

Broken finger - HUGE SPLINT, help?
Alright so i went to the doctor for a broken finger. turns out it was broken in two places (my index finger btw). They set it since it was misaligned and then put it in a splint.
only problem is, the splint is HUGE. i thought they were only supposed to go down to the end of your finger, but this one covers my knuckle so that i cant even bend the rest of my HAND correctly.
did the doctor give me a splint sized too big?
why would he mean to cover the knuckle?

it's normal my friend just broke her index finger by getting hit with basketball and she had one that big too. i think the dont want you to move it too much so it can heal.
