When an individual is in the area where someone is injured, wounded, burned or suffers any other injury, it is beneficial to have a FIRST AID KIT immediately available in order to assist. When someone requires help, he/she ( and even an animal) depends on you to provide first aid in some manner. In daily life, many instances of medical intervention can be accomplished, if a good first aid kit is readily available. Treating a wound with appropriate aids, keeps the injured person stable until expert medical assistance arrives. If the wound is dressed properly, the injured person can continue his/her activity. Having a first aid kit and learning how to use it is the first step in preventing a serious medical problem.

The Federal Government's Homeland and Security Department places an important emphasis on proper contents in A FIRST AID KIT to be used to help people in need.
They suggest you include the following in the First Aid Kit: Disposable gloves, preferably sterilized, (not latex, if allergic, of course), sterile dressing to help any bleeding subside; disinfecting/cleaning /liquid soaps solutions and antibiotic/disinfectant wipes; a salve which will prevent inflammation and infection. Have specific ointment for burns, adhesive white tapes in various widths and the kind with air holes for breathing. Have a solution to wash out the eye or to use to decontaminate the area of a wound. Additional items for better preparation to assist the injured in a FIRST AID KIT would include: A cellular telephone to contact emergency help (fire /rescue squad/paramedics) aspirin / Ibuprofen to help with pain. A simple instrument like a tweezers could help substantially as could anti-diarrhea pills or liquids, heart burn pills, a jar or tube of petroleum jelly for soothing protection for minor burns, maybe even a laxative.
The Fire Department of the City of New York has had extensive experience in the field of emergency medicine and therefore knows what to put into a FIRST AID KIT. Even though items are redundant, the listing demonstrates the need to have a good quality FIRST AID KIT. The Mass Group emphasizes the importance of having the recommended items in a FIRST AID KIT. If there is a limited budget for purchasing a KIT, then, at the least, a standard kit with basic necessities should be considered. A FIRST AID KIT should be a common object in the home, car or workplace.
To best utilize your First Aid Kit, the following pointers are helpful: If you don't have a proper FIRST AID KIT in a recognized box visible to all, then place the items in a clearly marked bag or container and put it in a place that is known to all and in easy reach. All the following places should have a kit: HOUSE, APARTMENT, TRAILER HOME, TENT FOR OUTINGS, CAR, BUS, TRUCK, MOTOR- CYCLE, MOTOR SCOOTER, EVEN a BICYCLE AND OF COURSE AT WORK. If the Kit is locked, make sure someone knows where the key is. We cannot over-emphasize the importance of periodically checking for expired items. Furthermore, one should take initiative to learn how to use all the contents in the proper way! Take a first aid course which includes CPR. -Teenagers, as well, should know the basics. Review a first aid instructions booklet with them.
As was mentioned previously, a FIRST AID KIT should be inspected carefully to know when to throw away spoiled or expired items and buy new ones. For the sake of others, please review techniques and practices you have learned about how to use all the items in the FIRST AID KIT. Where can I buy sterile latex gloves?
I need STERILE latex gloves. I've looked in a few drug stores but they only have non-sterile ones. I need to find them in a store, they won't be here in time if I order them. Where can I buy them?
Your best bets if you need them soon.
1. Your doctor or a local vet will have access to sterile gloves. They might be able to get a few pairs for you. A vet might be willing to sell you a few pairs, since they usually own the practice. A doctor might be reluctant if they work for a hospital, since they can get in trouble for "unaccounted for" supplies.
2. A local university's bookstore. Some microbiology lab courses may require them for a few labs. They're often supplied by the course, since they're hard to get, and stores are reluctant to stock them, but I guess it can't hurt to ask.
Keep in mind that sterile gloves are WAY more expensive than the non-sterile ones, and clean, non-sterile gloves are usually good enough for all but a few specialized uses. This is kind of why most drug stores don't bother to stock them.
Using a pair of non-sterile gloves and dunking your gloved hands in alcohol might be good enough depending on your needs. You can definitely get those at the drug stores.
