What about if the water is traveling between two tubes?

Please show equation, meanings of letters in equation, and list references!

To find the flow rate through a tube, there are two basic equations you use:

mass flow rate (m (with a dot above the 'm')) = pVA

p = density of the fluid; typically water = 1000 kg/m^3

V = velocity vector; typically in m/s

A = cross-sectional area (A = (pi / 4)* d^2

That is through a single tube.

Through two tubes:

You must take the flow rates, depending on what the question is asking, of the top tube, then the bottom tube. Usually, the velocities of both tubes will be giving, as well, they walls may or may not be fixed; it all depends on the question. You will take a reference triangular vector from the middle of the two vectors and go to the bottom of the second tube; then drop a vertical vector that goes through that triangular vector to the bottom tube to where it creates now two triangular vectors. Take the area of the new second triangular. You now have everything to plug in to your equations.

This may be confusing, but let me know so I can walk you through it.
