How do I use tty for the deaf?
I know this is a stupid question but I am new to tty. Do I need regular analog phone service? I have always used sorenson vrs in the past never tty. I have a new ultratec superprint 4425 tty machine. Is that a good tty machine?
Regular analog phone service is fine. Here is a good PDF file with common usage and abbreviations:

You can call direct to another TTY and type everything to a deaf person, or dial 711 to access the relay service to contact a hearing person. If you can speak but not hear, you can ask the relay service for VCO (Voice Carry Over). That allows you to speak directly to a hearing party, then you put the handset back in the cradle and the relay agent only types what they say back to you. It's a lot easier for you than having to type everything.
If the party you're calling can speak but not hear, they can activate VCO on their end and speak directly to you (if YOU can hear). You can even request VCO privacy, then the relay agent will mute the VCO so the other party can hear them but the agent cannot.
