Im a racing cyclist and have been for over 20 years but Im having a cystectomy in the near future .
Im told by my consultant that when Im fully healed after surgery I'll be able to resume my training/racing . Thing is , some of my rides/races are 2-3 hours long and Im concerned that the adhesive will fail due to me sweating so much . Also , Ive tried a urostomy bag on and the bottom part where the drain tap is gets in the way each time my thigh moves up on each pedal stroke !
Are there any cyclists out there riding with urostomy pouches/bags who can possibly help me on this ?

Hi Nick, I'm sorry you need this surgery however, yes, you will have a urostomy bag but look into the company that sells them. Is it Foley? They have bags of all sizes. There is a small one similar to a small IV bag that is made for sports enthusiasts like yourself. It's only short term and once you're done cycling, you can privately replace it or wait until you get home. Now the adhesive. I had this problem with a lot of my patients that were stationary. There is a product out there that you put on your skin before applying the adhesive. This allows for maximum hole. Another solution would be surgical tape around the the bag once you apply it to the stoma. Use silk tape, not paper. Paper does not stick well in heat or sweaty situations. I hate it. So look into the company that you get your supplies from and I know you will find a solution. Good luck on your ride. God bless you.
